If you have suspicious signs or symptoms of cancer, your doctor may order some tests to assess and confirm the extent of your disease. You may also need these tests to see the treatment response or as part of your routine follow up once your treatment is over.

The exact tests needed depend on your symptom and site of disease. They may include one of more of the following:

  1. 1.X-ray

  2. 2.CT scan

  3. 3.MRI scan

  4. 4.PET scan or PET-CT scan

  5. 5.Bone scan

  6. 6.Ultrasound examination

  7. 7.Mammogram

  8. 8.Endoscopy e.g. gastroscopy, colonoscopy, cystoscopy

  9. 9.Blood tests, including tumor marker levels

  10. 10. Tissue sample examination e.g. biopsy - this is the most important test to ascertain that you are having a malignant tumor. Moreover, the treatment approach for different histological or molecular tumor subtypes may differ.
